Undercover: A Poem

this carnage of the mind

is unbearable

yet we live with it, daily

we say our prayers

and wait for soft unmocking

voices to reappear

out of a dreamy stupor

we eat - but not like them

(who starve us out)

we eat to ensure some silence remains

if not in our heads, then our heart of hearts

pumping fresh nutrients away from their disaster

wishing to unmake it

hoping for renewal
